The Mens and Womens Olympic Road Race

Why this is Good for the Country and especially Good for Surrey and even more for the Surrey Hills.

Okay so here we are awaiting, 4am road closures Saturday morning and Village Road restrictions but its a small scarifice for what may happen after  the long awaited  Friday Evening Opening Olympic opening ceromony. For staurday and even Sunday  may prove to be a pivitol point in Britsh Cycling the London Olympics, and the medicine we all need in the Country Gold Medals and a Sport we really excel in and that Summer feel good factor proud to be British when all our economic news is quite frankly very depressing.

Bradley Wiggens will become a Household name not only becuase of his fantastic  acheivement in being the first Brit to win the Coveted Tour de France title but because the man has such humility he could be one of us ordinary folk minus the Talent and exception training and Fitness. He certainly inspires me to get on my bike. Apparently on a day off with his familiy he still maanged to fit in 4 hours on a bike and cove rover a 100 miles what commitment.

But the strategy and collabration with his fellow riders and the GB Cycling team also displays the clear focus and sacrifice of all our athletes  and with the clear strategy and self sacrifice of each individual cyclist from GB, Mark Cavendish will be given every opportunity to go for Gold on Saturday.

Living locally in Westcott and being a keen cyclist I  have both cycled and ran up the Zig  Zag on Box Hill so they are welcome to the nine laps required. I dont envy them one bit.
Once again Westcott is fortunate to lie on their route and thet will come right through the village around the corner on the Downhill from Coast Hill at 40 miles per hour plus they will be a quick whizz past so for me the Village Big Screen awaits.

Check this out for a Westcott  village sized view of the Cyclists, hurtling down from Coast Hill in Westcott downhill descent to Dorking past the Prince of Wales Pub in Wescott Village, to begin the 9 laps of Box Hill . Comes complete with all the thrills and spills noise of the overhead helicopter and Police sirens and support Vehicle entourage.
I  have below atatched  the approximate times and route our athelete Cyclists will take looking at some magnificent views they will scarcely be able to take in

And if we do get the Gold into the hands of Mark Cavendish then we will have something to be proud of and the beautiful  Surrey Hills will become a Cycling Mecca for all enthusiasts and Atheletes alike. Importantly Britain not forgetting Chris Hoy will have an Olympic team and a Sport for which we are World Leaders Britain leads the way once again

So go on  Bradley Wiggens and Go on Mark Cavendish and Go Victoria Pendlton make our dreams and your dreams come true as you put this splendid sport and our wonderful area in the Surrey Hills on the map.
